This summer I read Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow. The main character Charlie, has a broken past. She battled troubles with her family, her friends, and most importantly, herself. She is eventually given help but just as fast as it is given to her, it is taken away. She learns how to maneuver through life at the age of 17 and most importantly, stay out of trouble and avoid going back to her old habits. This book incited much curiosity and mystery about each character and their history.
One thing I noticed about two of the main characters, Charlie and Riley, is that they are very similar to each other. They both have bad pasts and struggle to make good decisions for themselves. Both seem to think they are alone in this and that no one can relate, but they are wrong. They learn they are wrong when they meet each other and fall in love. I liked how there were two characters that went through bad times, got worse, learned from it, and eventually recovered and became different people.
