Wavy

As soon as I reach the water I scream. The water is freezing! The voice in the back of my head tells me to go back inside and go back to sleep, considering it is four in the morning. Instead, I tell myself to keep going because catching this wave will make it all worth it. My cousin paddles out first and I follow. When I hop on my board, I cringe from the many bruises and rashes that I had acquired over the past three weeks of surfing. We have a pretty far paddle out to the point and my arms feel like bricks, not wanting to move. But again, I tell myself to keep going because the feeling of catching a wave is that worth it. When we reach the point, I sit up to get a good view of what is ahead. My cousin, a local of Hawaii and a much more experienced surfer, helps me to spot a set of waves coming. The wave travels closer slowly starting to break. I hurry and paddle as fast as I can to catch the perfect spot on the wave. I feel the wave start to push my board and I hop up. Then, I expe

Reading Response

I am currently reading  Violent End s by multiple authors, most prominently Shaun David Hutchinson. The book is about a teen named Kirby Matheson and how he walked into school and opened fire, killing six and injuring five others. The book is not a story about the shooting itself, it is about Kirby and how he changed from a good boy with friends to a school shooter. So far, the book has been extremely detailed and each chapter focuses on a very short period of time or event. A main characteristic of the book is that each chapter is told from a different viewpoint. Each chapter is one character's insight into who Kirby was and who he became. Some stories are sweet, some are dark, and some seem unrelated. This book is about perspectives with Kirby and what he did drawing them together. Lastly, this book is written from eighteen different authors so each chapter has a differing voice.

My Blog

Hey! I'm Landry and this is my blog. Through writing this blog, I hope to gain more strength in my writing and the ability to write faster. I think can achieve this based on how much time I focus on my blog and how many entires I write. I hope to be able to write the required amount and for that to be easy for me. I appreciate being able to write these blogs. I like writing these blogs much better than having more big essays. These blogs essentially replace two or so large papers. For me, it is much easier to write these short blog posts about different topics than writing large essays about one. Finally, I like how I have access to other classmates' blogs to see what they have written about and even give them compliments on their writing.

Reading Response

This summer I read Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow. The main character Charlie, has a broken past. She battled troubles with her family, her friends, and most importantly, herself. She is eventually given help but just as fast as it is given to her, it is taken away. She learns how to maneuver through life at the age of 17 and most importantly, stay out of trouble and avoid going back to her old habits. This book incited much curiosity and mystery about each character and their history. One thing I noticed about two of the main characters, Charlie and Riley, is that they are very similar to each other. They both have bad pasts and struggle to make good decisions for themselves. Both seem to think they are alone in this and that no one can relate, but they are wrong. They learn they are wrong when they meet each other and fall in love. I liked how there were two characters that went through bad times, got worse, learned from it, and eventually recovered and became different people
