Strengths and Challenges

I feel that my strengths as a writer have significantly grown this year. Through writing different types of papers, I learned what my strengths and weaknesses were and what I enjoyed. I found that I was strong in writing personal narratives and blog posts which made me realize that I enjoyed creative writing. In these papers, I included strong word choice and voice, which included vivid detail and personality, originality, and passion. These aspects are important to these papers because they speak to the audience and make the reader interested in the paper.

After writing my literary analysis and research paper, I found I struggled with these styles of writing. I found my organization in these papers to be a challenge. This includes the structure of my paper, such as the order of events, and making my paragraphs flow together seamlessly. I also found it difficult to stimulate ideas for which direction I wanted to take these papers in. I eventually decided on ideas after I took time to strategize and brainstorm. Even though I still need to work on these areas of writing, I was successful in my efforts to focus on improving these in my papers.

    I am also fairly good at writing blog posts; they have improved my writing a lot this year. Also, I struggled with connecting paragraphs seamlessly as well. Nice post!

    I think that we have very different strengths and weaknesses. I hate creative writing so the personal narrative wasn't that fun to write, but the literary analysis I really enjoyed writing. And I would consider organization one of my strengths. Good post!

After reading Harrison Bergeron I was left very perplexed and with many questions. This story is set in the future with a strict government. The government has decided everyone has to become equal to the most average person. This means anyone who is above average or with great talent, will be tortured into becoming lesser. The story focuses on a couple, George and Hazel Bergeron whose son has been taken away. This seems tragic but with Hazel's average intelligence and George's handicap radio in his ear, neither remember. Harrison Bergeron  follows a very common dystopian plot. This story reminds me very much of Divergent or The Giver in the sense that the government is trying to change or get rid of people in their community that are different. I have many questions regarding this story. Some level one questions are where is it set and what is the purpose of handicapping the people? “Mrs. Miles, your son is very young, 18, correct?” “17,” Mrs. Miles said. “Ah, yes, right. 17. Wow, and to think he’d have to spend the rest of his life in jail, since he’s too young for the death penalty. Research post

My topic for my research paper is the stages of the Holocaust. I focused on how the Jewish people were treated during the Holocaust and how their treatment evolved. The Holocaust was a time when the Nazis systematically murdered almost six million European Jews. The Nazis murdered the Jews through a plan made to answer "The Jewish Question".  Through this extermination of the Jewish population, other groups were targeted as well. My topic is important due to the underlying aspect of anti-semitism throughout history. My categories for my paper are the historical context, Jewish rights taken away, ghettos, deportation, and camps. These are the stages I chose to represent the evolution of the treatment of the Jews.
